Archontico K. Parisis is a three floor mansion built of stone in 1834 by a sponge merchant who, after making his fortune in Trieste came to Lafkos, bringing with him architectural elements unknown to the area. He built a fortified house with 16 embrasures and a hideout for himself, in a central location of the village, with beautiful views of the islands in the Pagasitikos Gulf. The Ministry of Culture have since declared it to be a protected building. The mansion's symmetrical facade is characterised by the heavy balcony on the top floor, the numerous large windows, the ornamental cast-ironwork and the garret windows of the ground floor. The interior has been renovated and converted with passion, love and a respect for tradition and aesthetics. Many features, including all of the original flooring and doors have been preserved. Archontico K. Parisis was renovated and transformed into a fabulous guesthouse offering traditional accommodation in 1998, by its present owners, Christos and Anna Theocharopoulou. |
